About Us

Millhouse Primary School & Nursery is a large, three form entry primary school in Laindon, Essex. In September 2016, we officially opened our doors as an all-through primary school with 630 pupils from Reception to Year 6 plus a 52 place nursery. Previously we were two separate schools, Millhouse Infant School & Nursery and Millhouse Junior School.

History of Our School

In 1968 the school first opened with 64 infant pupils and 49 first year junior pupils. The Headteacher at the time remembered her first day and recorded in the school log: “Apart from large play equipment, PE and visual aids, there was no stationary or other equipment ready”. The following year a Junior School Headteacher was appointed and until September 2016 the schools ran separately as Infant and Junior schools.

Prior to a school being on this site, the land was used for housing and recreational purposes. We even found out that there used to be a greyhound race track where the school field is now!

Throughout the years, the school site and building has been extended to accommodate the increasing number of pupils attending. When the most recent new classroom was built in 2014, the builders found a large well which used to supply the local community with water. Our most recent building project was our new staffroom to allow us to accommodate our staff (of which there are over 80).
